Par un bel après-midi
de la fin août, les 9 filles se retrouvent à Négra. Quelques-unes arrivent de
Toulouse avec leurs sacs sur le dos après une petite balade de train d’environ
1 heure et quelques kilomètres à pieds et les autres arrivent de Paris en taxi
privé. Elles ont soudoyé, avec leurs charmes et leurs bels accent québécois, un
employé de la compagnie ferroviaire qui les a reconduites avec grand plaisir à
la péniche.
Nos deux
Sylvie font une vingtaine de kilomètres à vélo afin d’approvisionner la péniche
en vivres avant le départ. Oufs… l’épicerie n’est pas à la porte!! Ça donne la
soif ça hein?
Les
contrats signés, les lits préparés et le frigo plein c’est maintenant le temps
de lâcher les amarres. Une piste cyclable, parfois difficilement carrossable,
longe les rives du Canal du Midi sur tout son parcours. Le chemin de
Compostelle passe aussi par ici alors il est possible de faire des parties du
trajet à pied ou en vélo entre les écluses et une fois quelques calories de brulées
(il va sans dire qu’avec les gâteries ingurgitées tout au long du voyage, il y
en a beaucoup de calories à éliminer!!), tu peux remonter à bord et profiter du
beau paysage.
Les
platanes se retrouvent de chaque côté du canal et nous longeons, dans la partie
nord, des champs de tournesols qui font par la suite place à des vignobles à
perte de vue, et ce, jusqu’à la fin du voyage. Malheureusement, ce n’est pas la
même chose pour les platanes qui sont contaminés et doivent être coupés et
brulés pour enrayer la maladie. C’est assez triste de voir les bûcherons qui
s’affairent à la coupe. Les platanes seront/sont remplacés par des arbres semblables,
mais plus résistants. Le canal est encore très beau dans la partie nord, mais
les petits arbres dans la partie sud auront quelques graines à manger avant de
redonner son charme au canal.
Le partage
des tâches se fait de la façon suivante : une à la barre, 2 ou 3 aux
amarres, une à la préparation du canard et une au radar… attention ce ne sont
pas des échos qui sont en cause ici, mais bien des speedos!
La
température est magnifique, nous avons la chance de visiter des vignobles,
petits villages rustiques/typiques, profité de bons restaurants. Nous avons
rencontré des gens hypergentils et souriants dans toutes nos visites. Nous avons
passé quelques jours à Castelnaudary durant le festival du cassoulet. Par la
suite, c’est Carcassonne et la vieille cité, là aussi un festival nous attend
avec comme voisin, une pénichette remplie de petits marins en camisoles bleues
et blanches et bérets rouges. Nous sommes accostés tellement près de la scène
de spectacle que la musique invitante nous accompagne même sur la pénichette.
Une soirée
« super boum » au pont-canal de Cesse ; Gé et Valéa, Michel et
Christine, un groupe d’Allemandes et plus. Il y avait tellement de monde à bord
de la pénichette qu’on se demandait si l'on allait rester à flot! Une belle
soirée remplie de musique, de rires et de bonnes assiettes… et un réveil brutal
avec des sacs remplis de bouteilles vides!
Finalement,
grâce à l’habilité de notre commandante et l’esprit organisationnel de notre
baronne ainsi que la participation de tous et chacune, le voyage fut bien
agréable. Nous avons bien mangé, bien bu et bien rigolé!
Prochaine destination, Sète, dans le « sudde » de la france

The nine girls, getting ready for the leisure craft tour, met
in Négra. Some girls are coming from Toulouse with their backpack after getting
of the train and walking a couple of kilometers. The others are coming from
Paris and with their nice “quebecoise” accent got an offer from an employee of
the train station in Toulouse who gave them a ride to the boat.
A couple of girls jumped on the bike to get some groceries
before we leave. Finally, the strore was some 10 kms away and with they were
really thirsty when they finally came back to the base with all the bags
attached to the bike, in the basket and on their back.
The boat contract signed, the bed made up and the fridge
pack to the top it’s now time to let go the lines. A bicycle path follows the
canal all the way. A part of the canal also belongs to the Chemin de
Compostelle so it’s easy to jump of the boat and walk, or ride along the canal
between two locks. With all the good meals and other treats we have onboard,
it’s good to get off and get rid of some colories!
The big nice trees (platanes) are on each side of the canal.
You can see fields of sunflowers on the north part of the canal and vineyards
on the south part. Unfortunately, the trees got sick and to get rid of the
contamination, they have to cut them and burn them. They are replaced by other
trees which should be more resistant but they are so small and it will take
many years to give back the nice look to the canal.
On board, we naturally share the different tasks. One is
assigned to drive the boat, a couple take care of the lines, some are confine
in the galley or have to clean the pots and pans…and finally some have to check
the interesting places to stop and visit.
The weather is just perfect and we could visit some vineyards
and cellars, little old villages, good restaurants. Every place we stopped, we
met interesting people who were very nice. We spend a couple of days in
Castelnaudary during the “cassoulet fiesta”. Then, we stopped in Carcasson and
visited the old city, again just on time for the fiesta. Our boat neighbor was
composed of a dozen of young guys all dressed in blue and white shirt with the
red hat, very nice! We were attached so close to the music stage that we didn’t
have to go out to get the show!!
At the end of the tour at Pont-Canal de Cesse, we had a
super evening and met a bunch of nice people: Gé et Valéa, Miche and Christine
and a group of girls from Germany and… Our boat was so crowded that we started
to wonder if it could sink! A nice evening with music, laughs and good plates…
the next morning was kind of tough and we collected bags of empty bottles!
With the ability of our commanding officer and the
well-organized “baronne” including the cooperation of each of the girls, the
trip was very nice. We all eat well, drank and laugh
